Here is what I am trying to do.

Have users locked into a home directory. (ie: /ftp)

But the thing is, I want to give them access to my MP3's which are on another dirve or folder but without having to move my MP3 folder within the ftp folder.

I've tried Serv-U and BulletProff FTP and neither can do this. According to the help files for Serv-U, it should be able to do it with the virtual path setting but Iv'e tried every combination and none of it work.


Is there any ftp server program that can do this?

I know this isn't what you're asking, but you can do it with HTTP passwords on certain directories, just so you can use IE to get to the files... I can't answer your FTP questions though, but that's another way to go.

Ferno, I tried it, didn't work. I added 2 folders to a user, only the home folder showed up.

It does work. What you did is only part of what you need to do. Go into the group settings and make sure that group is able to recognize windows shortcuts (*.lnk). Then go into "My Computer" and goto your mp3 dir. Right-click on that folder and select "Create Shortcut". Move that shortcut into your FTP dir and you're set! (they won't be able to view it w/o specific permission, so those that don't have permission won't be able to access it even though it shows up on the directory listing.)

Yeah, I was thinking along those lines as well. This wouldn't be a trick in the FTP server, but in windows and/or the filesystem.

I was thinking about mounting the volume on which your MP3s are onto a folder instead of a driveletter, but this is obviously better.

Since move function works again, this is going to Stress' arena.
