Laptop problems

Ever now and then my laptop (the computer I'm typing on now) will shut itself down for no reason at all. Within a few seconds the screen will be completely blank. Someone mentioned to me before that it could be a virus, but I've run 2 virus scanners on it, and I've cleared 2 worms, but the problem hasn't gone away. Sometimes it'll go days/weeks without doing it, but sometimes, like yesterday/today, it'll do it several times.

Toshiba Satellite (2000 I believe), 1 GHZ, XP, and I never run it on the battery, it's always plugged in.

What's the full, specific model number? You may need to update the BIOS, as there are known power issues with certain Toshiba laptops. http://ts.toshiba.com/

I'm not too computer savvy, how do I find out the model number?

Should be a sticker on the bottom of the laptop if it doesn't say on top.

I would be wary of the power cord. Is it kinked? Try moving it around while the laptop is on. See if the power cuts out then.
