Windows Easy Transfer

I see it says not with XP 64 bit. Will it work with XP 32 bit being transferred to Win7 & Win8 64 bit?

easy transfer was meant to move between installs of XP.

Is there any free software that will move files from one computer to another? I've always backed up to an external HD and then drug them to the new computer.

Copying stuff directly over a local area network qualifies as free.
