M$ Sidewinder 3D Pro on USB
A question for you relating to something you mentioned in your very first post, Grendel. I'm assuming it is possible, but I wanted to confirm or see if you had tried putting it to the test: Is it possible to use the open-source drivers you mentioned for Linux with the 3D Pro and your converter box?
I confess I've fallen in love with the Saitek Evo as an alternative for the interim, especially since I'm using it in my left hand (it's an ambidexterous stick) and a mouse in my right. ;p Call me insane, but I'm lovin it now that I've retrained my brain. I have even more maneuverability than I used to, I'm just still sluggish at times and my aim is a little off because using both simultaneously hasn't become 100% second nature yet.

Re:
If you hook the 3DP up w/ the converter, Linux will use its general purpose joystick HID driver instead the 3DP specific one -- I haven't tried it but I know ppl use the 3DP-Vert w/ Linux. Technically there's an advantage using the converter, it a. frees up the CPU from polling the 3DP and b. the polling frequency is higher w/ the converter (125Hz).Sllik wrote:I'm assuming it is possible, but I wanted to confirm or see if you had tried putting it to the test: Is it possible to use the open-source drivers you mentioned for Linux with the 3D Pro and your converter box?
Eeew. I tried the Evo, sux even more than a Logitech stick.. Waaaay too much travel IMHO (I donated it as a price for a LAN party..) Also I wasn't very impressed by the build quallity. But that's me, your millage will vary of course. Do you still want a converter ?Sllik wrote:I confess I've fallen in love with the Saitek Evo as an alternative for the interim,
Uh, that stick is already USB.. http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/produ ... ENTID=6954Canuck wrote:Would the converter work for an Logitech Extreme 3D Pro? Perhaps some modification of code...
3DP cable adapter WORKING!!!
Thanks to Grendel, I shrinked the board (using smd components) and make it to fit into a parallel plastic shield. The adapter works perfectly!!!!
Thanks again Grendel!!! As I promised I'll send you Protel PCB.

Ciccio, got the email, thanks. Post some pictures
I ran into trouble w/ my color printer, so I'll go ahead and print the manuals in b/w. If anyone wants a color version, please download the manual PDF here.

Images of my converter
This will be my last and only 3DP adapter... for this reason the circuit has some imperfections...
BTW it works...

Just stumbled on this forum, after finding my old SideWinder 3d pro from the closet - and not getting it to work in XP (got a gameport, but it keep telling me Not Connected).
Is it possible to get in on any productions ???

Ok, I think I know the answer already, but tell me, would this work with the logitech cyberman 2?

I picked one of these up for cheap, and it would be very cool to get it working with a laptop. It is definately a 'digital' device and not an analog gameport device.

In this incarnation it will not work w/ the Cyberman 2, sorry. M$ uses the OverDrive protocol, LogiTech uses ADI -- unfortunately they are totally different. OTOH, I do have a Cm2 myself and I may look into an ADI implementation on the 3DP-Vert (if time permits and I want to try something different .)

I'm not sure what you're suggesting people use this for. If you are looking for a cable adapter to go directly from the 3d pro to the computer, it doesn't exist and never will- the signal has to get converted in the process. The 3d pro uses 8+ wires to transfer information, and the usb only uses 4- so you have to have a chip in the middle that will convert the 3dpro signal into a usb signal. All that cable does is change the pulg type- it doesn't change the signal at all.spence wrote:Has anyone tryed this

No it just lets you put your chip inside your computer and connect it to a usb header (and not have to go back outside the case with a usb cord)snoopy wrote:I'm not sure what you're suggesting people use this for. Thanks for your reply. I know a lot of pilots like the 3D Pro for the twist, but I lost that twist-capacity years ago and I'm pretty used to it. I've ordered this product and I'll give a report later if I can get it to work.amogan wrote:Hmm I've heard that those don't work very well with the 3D Pro.

Sorry for my delay in updates here -- it's a madhouse @ work..
True for Thrustmaster mode (mode select pos. II) You loose the slider in this mode as well. CH mode (pos. I) is worse, two buttons pressed at the same time will not register.Grendel wrote:Unfortunately a regular gameport to USB converter isn't very usefull -- you loose the 8-way hat (becomes a 4-way hat) and the base buttons.
