Anyone know how to do this/What its called?

Post by Dakatsu »

Okay, I have been playing electric guitar for a while, about a year. I am great with power chords, and fingering, and many techniques.

But I don't know how to do that warp-slide thingy.
If you don't know what I am talking about, I have a small audio clip here: (Hit free to get it, don't sign up)

What is this called in technical terms, and a way to learn it.

Thanks.

Heh... don't know much about it, but it seems to be a staple in all the power metal songs I listen to... :)

I'm not sure what it's called, but I know how people do it. You just push the string kinda to the side on the neck, so you kinda stretch the string more, that makes it's tone get a little higher. So, if you kinda push and let go and push and let go, you get the warpy thing.

\"widespread panic!\"

it's called a pickslide.
you slide the pick up and/or down the neck of the guitar.

don't you just love the bass intro to panic? :D

Using lots of distortion, master volume set on 11 - start with the pick near the bridge - put the edge of the pick on as many strings as it will cover, use the wound strings (low E, A & D) so you get the edge of the pick bouncing off of each of the many windings - slide towards the nut- vary the speed and slide it up and/or down the neck to find your favorite sound....
Don't forget the obligatory cocky stare into the audience while you execute this masterful feat of musicianship ;)

Yeah, and if you plan on doing this often, make sure to have a buttload of picks on reserve as it will quickly eat away the plastic.

You should also try picksliding in different ways. Palm mute it with more muting or less muting, use some effects, graze over the strings with your fret hand int front or behind the pick, etc. Just try different stuff out to get the certain kind of sounds that you want. Heck, if you know how, you can mimic the sound of a bomb dropping from a WW2 plane. :)
