I have owned all but Seagate, and WD has been the most reliable for me.

Keep in mind that IBM drives are now labeled as Hitachi.

I've owned all of those as well, and the one I like the least is Maxtor.

WD for me, although I used to be a seagate fan.

Very bad experiences with Maxtor (incl. fabulous delays when RMA'ing defective drives)..

I have a Hitachi disk right now, it's nice except that it makes some annoying noise.

I won't comment on the reliability because I've only had a few hard drives ever and to draw any conclusion from my own experience I'd need to have experience with much, much more disks. One broken disk - or a few that worked - wouldn't really prove anything.

For reliability check StorageReview.com.

Definitely Maxtor. I can't speak for current WD drives, but I've had nothing but trouble out of their drives in the past.

I had a WD crash on me before years and years ago, so I had been using Maxtors (very pleased with them), but I can't knock my WD Raptors, so WD got my vote.
