you got a AB Cooler? the trick is, when he starts charging at you, make him charge harder by tri-chording away from him, then at the last instant....stop AB and pitch away and slide and he will shoot right past you. now you have a perfect as$ shot at his evil and dont forget, there are extra weapons scattered around that large room, dont be afraid to stay away and load up. or hit him, load up, hit him, load up >>>>>>

Once you've unlocked a ship, you can play previous levels with that ship when you start a new campaign, Ace.

As for beating the Homscrewspellingitsname without dying, the only time I did it was by taking the lame way out and climbing back out of the magnetic accelerator that you enter the room through. If you can get it to stay in view of the tunnel enterance, you can fire at it with impunity. The other times, it's been 'run until I die; wash, respawn, repeat.'

Somethign to keep in mind is if you stay in the front half of the room the matcens won't activate. It's easier to fight him when Scratches arn't pealing weapons off you.

That said, I'm not sure if I've manged to kill him in one go.

I just lazly camp up in one of the big corners near the big door where he cant reach me and shoot him with superlasers after I pick off all the orbots and scratches, then all you need to do is dodge his ranged weapons.

He's vulnerable inside his mouth. Empty a few flamethrowers in his face and watch him burn. He'll drop to the floor and squirm, but be careful . . .as soon as the flames go out he'll be back at ya if the burn wasn't enough. Continue to pound him while he's down and he'll never get up.

It's not impossible to dodge. You just need to pull a tight spiral when the blobs get close, like dodging Shakers in D2 or Earthshaker Pro. The only problem with that is you might get charged by the boss and thwacked by its claw. You've just got to pick the lesser of two evils in that case.

Either that, or you're talking about the seeker mines, which you can outrun in a monochord and should end up destroying in the crossfire with the boss.

Drop 4 Gunboys everywhere in its room there makes Homunculus confuse. It attacks dropped gunboys, it not attack me sometime. If you didn't drop gunboy, it alway attack you. That bit more easy as away from its dangerous weapons.

Napalm Gun is bad for that, cuz Homunculus charge you to crash into you, you get stick by napalm!

Homunculus' right arm and back are weak, you fire them. They will be explode. And get some scores.

Fly into the Energy Center, Homunculus can't crash into you, cuz that boss is too big for there when you stay in the Energy Center for few sec. But Old Scratch still can scratchs your favorite ship by there. Get out of there if the boss leaves you.

I destroyed it on Ace, without it killed me. Trainee and Rookie are too easy. Hotshot is ok. Ace and Insane are very hard and learn how to dodge and any serious for MP. Aww, I never play MP Online before, Never! I played SP much times.

Here is a walkthrough that makes it a lot easier on insane. If you have phoenix + 200 health and 4 gunboys it will be even easier.
It always requires some luck, though. Usually up to 5 trys will get you there.

There are some contradictory steps there in that walkthrough... was it designed by committee? :D
I love that boss fight, no matter how hard it is. Even when I die a hundred zillion times it's one of the best parts of the game.

I never quite manage to dodge his energy blob in the pyro though. And since you have to beat him to unlock the phoenix, the first time's...

The deadly yellow weapon is totally bullsh*t, too hard to dodge if you do not have the Phoenix unlocked yet.

By the way, I still love Pyro ships.

You need to stop running away from him when he stops chasing you otherwise he'll shoot the plasmas. About the back of the room, I never started the matcens so I stayed back enough.
You saw me vauss him when he went far away from me because I know the guy well enough to tell if he is about to rush to me or not :)

I've only died thrice in the campaign:

One of the Level 12 minibosses killed me
My Blackshark glitched and the black hole restarted on the Hellion
One of the robots in the Homonculous room killed me

And that is 1st playthrough, so...

P.S. What does Homonculous mean? (PM me)
Whatever I just said, I hope you understood it correctly. Understood what I meant, I mean.

To be honest, I was impressed.

Oh, and I did die quite a bit in the Level 4 subway, so that makes 4 deaths :P
