Fear - incoming messages and laptop infos?

Post by Diedel »

I bought Fear yesterday, installed it today, started to play - and never hear any of the messages from the team coordinator or team mates, and if I connect to a laptop having a message for me, I don't know how to access that messages. There's nothing in the manual nor in the options menu about it.

How do I read/listen to this stuff?

Is there no readme file on the CD or in the folder?

Are you talking about single player or multiplayer?

Single player. The readme says nothing about this.

Might be something with your sound. The information on those laptops, you never actually get to 'see', but rather your team coordinator simply tells you what he is reading on the info over your comm link. Its an audio thing with regards to laptops, communications with teammates and listening to phone messages. If you aren't hearing anything, might want to check your audio settings.

Maybe Alma is messing with your head. :)

If you come upon a phone with the message light blinking, press the use key and you can listen to the message.

Can you hear the communications of the enemy soldiers?

Rigeur,

I think you cannot read. I wrote about laptop downloads and team messages. I can hear the phone messages, but not the others. Guess its my sound settings. Can't this darn game work right with an Audigy X-Fi?

Change your sound settings, if you are using a SP-DIF output from the card and don't have Dolby Digital Live support, use 2.0 sterio or the system will drop channels. Othewise use analog surround outputs of the proper channel number to whatever speaker system you are using.

It's very strange that you can hear some things and not others. iirc, not every laptop you find has info on it.

Not that strange, if he is using the wrong kind of output for his speaker system, the game might be playing a sound on the center channel that either doesn't exist or is not connected. I've seen this happen on my own system, music and various sound effects played, but anything from the game character was muted because it was sent to the center channel which is not available in SP-DIF unless you use DDLive! (AC3) encoding.

update your drivers for your soundcard.

IIRC, you can set the speaker setup in game.

I searched in this forum
http://forums.vugames.com/forum.jspa?fo ... 68&start=0
and various sound problems were fixed by changing the audio codec settings.

fwiw, there's a trick for getting more ammo. If you pick up a weapon that you are already carrying, you get a small amount of ammo -- but if you're not carrying that weapon type, you get more ammo. To get more ammo, first drop your weapon off to the side, pick up the new one, then pick up the one you dropped.

I turned off HW mixing, and alas, it worked.
