Myth: Core Decision is just a mod.
Fact: Core Decision is not a mod, expansion pack, or open source product. It is a full-production, commercial game.

Myth: Into Cerberon is Core Decision
Fact: Core Decision is not in any way related to Into Cerberon.

Myth: Core Decision is a dead project. It isn't going anywhere.
Fact: Core Decision is not a dead project. We are still hard at work developing it. We have commercial and financial backing and are not likely to stop. It has been in development for a little over 2 years.

Myth: Core Decision was delayed.
Fact: Core Decision will be release presently on time with the deadline specified on the Core Decision Portal. http://coredecision.highoctane.biz

Myth: Core Decision is just that Descent 4 project that failed.
Fact: Core Decision is not in any way related to the previous Descent 4 project.

Myth: Core Decision is most like Descent 3.
Fact: Core Decision is most like Descent 1/2 not 3.

Myth: Core Decision uses the Doom3 engine.
Fact: Core Decision is not based on the Doom3 engine.

Myth: Core Decision's engine is incapable of high-end graphics and physics processing, thus it will not succeed in the modern FPS market.
Fact: Core Decision's engine is more than capable of most any graphics or physics processing you can throw at it. It is capable of full-scene real-time soft shadowing, can handle bump-mapped textures at(and possibly over) 1024x1024, and can use scripts to determine physics for specific objects. However, HighOctane is not planning on making these enhancements necessary, in order to support a wider range of computers. Essentially, HighOctane Software is trying to make this engine as scalable as possible.

Given this is a multi-player-ONLY mod - how CAN there be a story? It's not ABOUT a story - it's about BLOWING *edit* UP ONLINE!

Fact: Agreed that FPS games are often times not truly about the story and more about the action. However, the rest of this statement is almost 100% inaccurate.

Given this is a multi-player-ONLY mod

Not sure how many times this must be stressed but Core Decision is not a mod. Also, I'm once again stunned by a myth that floats around, Multiplayer Only. If people would take the time to read the FAQs and the Interviews they would see that this game is not only Multiplayer but also has a very large compliment of Singleplayer levels as well. Which in addition we will most likely release an expansion pack for later. If it were multiplayer only we would have released it already.

Quote:
how CAN there be a story?

Easy, we hire storyboard artists, writers, researchers, and some very hard boiled critics. They then proceed to write a story and have it ripped to shreads in front of them until they get a small part of it right. That small part goes on to the storyboard artist who make pictures to go with it while the writers continue to find more gold in with the rock.

Rest assured that we do have a story.

Please feel free to ask any other questions you may think of in regards to this game.

I’ve come across a few geniuses on the Core Decision forum thinking or claiming the game is one big hoax. Here is a fact,

This isn’t a hoax.

Some myths I've seen whilst browsing the CD forums, and facts taken from interviews and forum posts of HighOctane staff.

Ok, there's only one. but it is very important to the graphics-centric player, of which many seem to exist.

On Textures it's capable of 2048x2048. Who said that the engine wasn't capable of high-end graphics?

Dear Zach,

optimism is a lack of information. Wink

Late game releases don't disappoint me. Bad (buggy, flawed) game releases do. I rather wait another year for a game to be really done, than get a rushed product not living up to the promises and the developers' own expectations and goals (because the publisher forced them to release to finally see some money).

Reading your impressive engine feature list, I am pretty excited about CD though. I will definitely buy it. I will even upgrade my computer if necessary (though it might do pretty well, looking at your min. specs).

So I just wish you the financial background and lasting motivation to create a really, really good game. Smile

"Most people don't plan to fail, they fail to plan." -John L. Beckley

I agree that it is a tradgedy when a product is rushed to market, mistakes get made and people get hurt. This is why a project leader must appropriately plan out the milestones and successes of his team, including accounting for every task taking longer than it should.

Forgive me here for droning on this one. But I would love to know who came up with the line that the engine couldn't support high-end graphics. Actually, I guess I really don't care so much I would just like everyone who thinks that to get the right information.

Yeah, with a minimum of 64x64 textures. We were thinking about making an ASCII renderer so it would run on older machines. I don't know if there video card pipelines will handle it Razz

kidding of course...

There were a few people, in the "Will Core Decision have an extreme side" thread.

Also, I didn't want to falsely advertise anything about maximum texture resolution.
