Teamspeak 101

Post by MD-2389 »

What is teamspeak? Teamspeak is a voice chat client that players uses to communicate, as an alternative to the various chat interfaces used in games today. (Download Be sure to download the updated executable as well.)

Note: This tutorial is assuming that you're running version 2 of the program. As of this tutorial, version 3 has not been released. I will update as necessary when it finally is released.

Setup is a breeze. Just double-click on the executable and follow the on-screen prompts.

Now comes the fun part. When you launch teamspeak, you have to add a server to join to. To do this, you click the Connection menu and select Connect. Make sure the Local Addressbook tab is selected (usually is by default). Right-click on the open area and select Add Server. Where it says Label, enter in a name for the server you want to connect to (you can call it anything you want). Server Address is where you enter in the IP address (or URL in some cases) of the server you wish to connect to. Nickname is the name you wish to use on the server. Make sure the box next to Auto-Reconnect is checked, and then click on the Connect button. If you set it up right, you should have connected to your desired server.

Now, some server administrators will allow you to register on their server (which may enable you to have certain privileges, like being able to start your own channel. It all depends on how they set up their security on the server.). If they do, you simply click on the Self menu and select Register with server. You enter in a desired username and password. Once this is done, you will be only shown as a registered player for that session. To make this a permanent change: Click the Connection menu again and select Connect. Under where you selected your Nickname, there are two options. Anonymous and Registered. Select Registered and then enter in the same username and password that you typed when you registered with the server. Now you simply click the Connect button again. You are DONE!

A Teamspeak server IP listing is probably more helpful than anything else.

We use our TS server when at [RG]Lan.

It is internal - LAN only - atm but you guys are more than welcome to set up the server for the next event. It is an anonomous server but you can still put in a username as you'd like us to see you. :)

ts.rglan.com (ip address box)

I will attempt to get our network admin (Polaris) to add TS2 to our virtual server - outside world - sometime soon. If and when that happens I will add the IP address.

I still need to talk to KB about adding a DNS name for this one.
