(disclaimer for the modern-day-illiterate: <3 is a heart symbol, see it's on it's side)

nope - can't say that.

NY claims to own the sole rights to the \"I heart - something\" logo (ie: \"i heart NY\"). Or so they have been saying as they have begun a campaign against Brisbane city council - in Australia - for using \"I heart BNE\" (with a green heart instead of red) as a logo to promote sustainability awareness (official website).

no-one will be able to tell that i (picture of dog poop) NY because they think they own the <3 sign. They will think i just hate NY for the normal reasons everyone else hates NY

How can a city own any sort of copyright...it's not supposed to be a corporation of any sort.

The tourism board is a corporation. Just like NYC and Company (the city's tourism board) owns the trademark to NYC. ( http://www.nycvisit.com )

Come on people, New York is not the center of the universe, although the media seems to think it is! That stupid \"heart\" symbol has been overused anyway. The Aussies should come up with something even better. Be creative!

I love when people pull that out for absolutely no reason... nobody thinks New York is the center of the universe except for the ~20 million people who live in the NYC metro area. People who whine about overreporting of things related to NY are just overreacting.
