Loss of Democracy

Post by Dakatsu »

As you all may of heard, the state of Florida doesn't get any democratic delegates (along with Michigan). To me this seems highly... undemocratic... but this is just plain fascism:

Hilary Rotten Clinton here thinks that the votes should count now, after she won the state of Florida. After many people didn't vote because it would be pointless to vote when your vote literaly does not count.

The wonders of political parties...

It doesn't make sense to me that state governments get to dictate when the democratic and republican parties choose their states' delegates for the national convention.

Even though party conventions are public spectacles, the parties themselves are private entities, the concept of primaries in the US seems to be an unnecessary interference of government into private policy.

Complaining about Florida not having any democratic delegates this year is like oiling the hinges on the barn after the horse fled.

It was the Democratic party itself that negated Florida's vote simply because the Floridians chose to make their primary earlier in the year. So now that Ms.Clinton finds she won the winner takes all delegates but can't have them, she wants the rules changed. Typical.

Simply put, anyone that even thinks about doing something like that doesn't deserve to be a president of even the smallest country!

The republicans also punished the state by taking away half of their deligates--which I think is a more reasonable punishment.

If there is no punishment, every state would keep trying to jump to the front of the line for the media attention/revinew that it brings the state. We would be having the primaries for 2012 in 2009.

You can't blame Florida for wanting in on this attention, but if you don't punish them then every state will start running over this perverbial boarder. :P

Solution: Don’t break the rules.

Solution: Have all primaries on the same day.

And the point of the thread is not about how Florida broke the rules, but how Hilary Clinton is trying to get them to count now, especially because it would benefit her!

Historically, only a few states have had their primaries before \"super Tuesday\", and those states are considered a pretty big deal in presidential politics. Florida was not one of those. Whoever is in charge of Florida's primary decided to try to make their primary into a big deal by moving it earlier. The parties responded by taking away some or all of Florida's delegates. I think that was a perfectly reasonable response -- if you try to game the system, you're penalized.

The only \"lame\" thing about all of this is Hillary deciding, after she's won the state, that they deserve delegates. When everyone campaigns based on the fact that Florida doesn't get delegates, you can't suddenly decide that Florida should have had delegates. You can't change the rules after the fact.

Yeah woody...your boy Bush has been great at following rules.

Screw Florida...they caused this mess in 2000...they shouldn't get to vote anyways.

Can't blame Hilary for taking every opportunity she can. There is a lot at stake. But she does risk seeming two faced.
