Seems there is a bit of a mystery in Pikesville MD. A very loud bang accompanied by a bright flash that has the police baffled and happens so often that people are logging the event and video taping it. So far no answers:

THIS is where the school carpark in question is.
You'll note this webcam is 3.5 kms North-West of it. Not really useful.

anyway, mystery over it seems:

Detectives believed that the explosion sound and light were made from someone discharging some type of firework or pyrotechnic device. Inside Mackler's residence, they found and seized pyrotechnics, illegal narcotics and firearms.

Frederick Lee Mackler, 59, of the 8000 block of Brynmor Court, has been charged with drugs violations, possession of a concealed deadly weapon, possession of fireworks without a permit and reckless endangerment, according to police. He is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on $1 million bail.

Police say it was heavy duty fireworks a man in a condo in the neighborhood was shooting off.

Police say they have now arrested the man who they believe is responsible for the blasts and flashes in the sky over Pikesville.

yeah it was great of them to get in physicists & meteorologists & whatnot, that was tops. It somewhat restored my faith in the ability of pop-news to actually appeal to me.

i was expected them to go with the \"god/aliens did it\" angle and consult some tinfoil hatters. Good show, Cheerio

Hah, would have loved to see this for myself.

For those who don't know, Pikesville is just outside the Baltimore city limits, inside the beltway. We also have our own billboards dedicated to the FSM. Very odd combination of bumblefark and urban here.
