Funny how all the lower skilled players dislike Indika, yet the high skilled players love it....

It's the polar opposite of Subway Dancer, which lower skilled players can't get enough of, yet high skilled players don't want to touch with a 10 foot pole.

Huh? I never particularly liked Indika, I just didn't hate it. I found myself in Indika games because it was usually the lesser of evils.

at any Lan indika was the choice level for drunken tournys other than that never really played. it's a dead heat level of pop goes the weasle... when it's a 14 player game it becomes a circle jerk of lighting up hallways with triple barnies.... when i need gratification of tank killing with little effort i join BI3... then go play a level that doesnt require a hammer to hit whatever pops out the holes.. and they pop out often.... :)

I seem to have a better workout dodging your stupidity than attempting to grasp the weight of your intelligence.

I really don't like either one. So where does that place me on your list? :)

Instead of pushing your BI3 'skillz', why don't you guys try something different, for a change? I've suggested Gladius (where pilots have to really MOVE rather than playing whack-a-mole, as Bubbalou put it). Others have suggested alternate smallish levels as well.

If a player is great at BI3, he is great at every level.

This is the power of BI3.

I call "B.S."

BI3-specialists get very good at horizontal pop-n-shoot tactics, but not much else.

Tell you what. I'm actually a little more free this week. I'll play you 1v1 in two games: One in BI3 and one in any of the other 1v1 levels suggested here; your pick. As a more experienced pilot, you'll likely win both... but I guarantee you will not do as well against me in the non-BI3 level.

[I think we can trust each other not to intentionally 'bomb' either game.]

Deal? 8)

Not my pick, yours.

Remember I said "your pick" from the previously-mentioned levels (HellFire, AoD, Elysium, Cube, Forge, Vander's Revenge, Callosity, BillTheCat, KegParty, Zora, Damage, Gladius).

I wonder......peeps that claim Bi3 to be a easy kill level. Is it because they get a lot of kills there, or is it because they die a lot more and then conclude 'my opponent get easy kills'

I never said BI3 is an "easy kill" level.

I said BI3 is a "quick kill" level. Fights in BI3 are mostly one-shot kills. It's all pop-'n-shoot or lobbing down hallways; zero dogfights, and it's all in a flat horizontal layout.

As far as I'm concerned, that's not good Descent-style combat.

agreed Foil.

That is best left in the D1, D2 realm of smart missles and smart mines.

Indika doesn't showcase what D3 is capable of. For that matter, a level that truly does that more than likely would never get played. In multi that is.

Eh, even in D1/2 that wasn't really satisfying. Burning Indika wouldn't necessarily have played that way there, of course - that and it always suited the original two games better aesthetically (though, curiously, it never caught on until D3).

I do like The Core though (the level, not the movie), although that probably partly stems from the first D3 demo. That was a fun game, actually. Didn't like the finished product as much.

You have a good point Foil, about the flat struckture of Bi3s layout.
But.....thers allways a 'but' :P The interesting thing about Bi3 is the tactical aspect, and building along the vertical axis doesnt necessary add anything to that, it can, yes, but existent levels with more vertical layout adds more to the esthetic aspect than the tactical. Therefore Zeros reply, which I think is ironical
Zero! wrote:because they are pretty
What would be interesting, is an level with no definition of up and down. Cube is a close one. Water on the bottom actually define whats down, but still you lose sense of up and down. I would have prefer more rooms and hallways inside the cube though.

As an old fart Descenter who started with release of D1, and a RE-freshed set of eyes I would ofer this.

There appear to be few players, so they are going to tend gather in THE level being played. BI3 has always been popular. You can have a lot of fun, it is quick action, and fast paced battle. You are never far from a fight. Does the fact that for some years Vander sat few feet from me playing lan every week color my judgement... maybe...

I am actually (maybe without luck) going to try and restir interest in The Descent(s) amoung those I was close to. This is purely selfish, I would like to talk and interact more with my old friends. I would also love to get more players in the mines, which I am very sure would add variance of levels played.

How many people do you know that used to play, and faded away ??? How many if prodded a bit would step back in the mines like I did just a week ago and be instantly hooked again ??

I left due to the poor choices in levels being played. Always the same levels over and over. Once in a while another level would be played but would last only 1 night. BI2, Skybox, Abend, VV, Subway Dancer is all that people want to play.

I don't have much time to play and it's not a set day of the week. My life has changed in the last 2 years and it's my priority.

Did my first official test of the incomplete version of my new level, \"Laer\" and i have to say, out of any level i've ever played in d3, it is by far the most balanced weapon-wise, architecture-wise, and overall level diversity.

I tried to incoporate elements from two of my favorite level builders (D1, Spaz) and (D2 Vander)
So that i could create a quasi-mixture of level design, The layout is simple, yet complex.
More like a d1 level, whereas i am texturing it much like a Vander D2/D3 tunnel type level.

The weapons will be very balanced and after playing RETHINK in there 1on1, i think it's best suited for 3-5 players, Non-stop fast paced action with more than just fusion, it has MD, plasma, super lasers.

A large dogfighting room with Vertical elements, plenty of spots to hide behind while in a large room dogfight so you can mix it up and trick your opponent, small cramped hallways to make it hard to camp and lob, A medium sized energy-dogfighting room in the style of Spaz's \"Fuzed\" to commemorate his skills which I personally believe didn't recieve enough recognition..

I've also included a pillar type room, because i enjoy dark areas where i can lurk in the quiet.. and finally i plan on having a small cave area to fight in.

I will post up more info soon, Will any server admin's be interested in hosting for me?

Also, i'd like to mention that this current texturing is not final, i have to finish the caving area and a little extra here and there stuff but after that i plan on releasing for testing before the final version is out.

Anyone interested?

If I started to see more players, a renewed interest, etc. I might be willing to put a line in to run levels. Maybe...

Ceratinly could offer some selection if I did, but you need players.

I was very suprised to see so many Co-Op levels running ???

From what I have seen, we have gotten 6 new players within 1 and a half months. Xahi- Xhaj-- However the hell you spell his name, the other two in Firing Range that you and I were in a couple days ago (one of them started with an N), WRAITH-1, Razgriz (Ace Combat 5 FTW!), and there was someone else. That's six.

Not really, it's only one machine hosting them. It's a new feature of the D3 Server Tool, run many servers concurrently but as soon a player joins one all except that one are taken down until that server is empty again.

Indeed.

What I do not like about the server tool is that when I start up my games, the tool crashes and the games that I were able to launch are still running. Then I restart the tool and they are not listed.

The problem is that I can start Server B and then A, but not the other way around. I'll start a new topic.

Burning Indika 3 is more important than your server related issues.

Unless you were planning to host Burning Indika 3.

In which case your server issues serve a minor purpose, towards a greater good. Now, go forth and host your very own Indika server so the Community can enjoy its greatness.
