Their original goal was 2 million, but people keep telling them to shut up and take their money.

I got in during the original drive,

The game is going to be awesome. We've already got enough interest to form a team and actively recruit for it.

The more $ they get from the pledges, the less they need from investors, so the money ends up in development instead of the pockets of the middleman.
Everything I've seen so far is amazing. I bought a couple of ships, and glad I did.

Interesting that it uses Cryengine 3. Really looks awesome. But did anybody catch that ship collision on the video? ;) That was lame. Love the idea of growing the game as it is played, so that new areas are discovered. I think somebody needs to introduce his "universe" to the Pyro-GX. ;)

I was thinking that perhaps with the renewed interest in space games/sims, perhaps we'll see some renewed activity for a descent style game, or better yet, a Descent 4!

I think there are already some publishing companies with connections to Interplay watching Sol Contingency very closely.

Actually, I think SC will win the hearts of he FS1/FS2 crowd. Descent never was much of a space sim. It was/is more of a free floating shooter. Technically, it was classified as "Action".
I think they might grab some folks from Eve.

I'm thinking the swing toward more interest in space/sci fi (as opposed to fantasy) may focus more developer attention on this theme.
And with more joysticks needed for SC, Descent should be on the radar for some publisher.

But back on topic, SC should be great for dogfighting, and for pc gaming in general.
