please help me

Post by contact »

since pxo went the way of the dodo i've not been able to play d3 online

can someone please it explain it to me - only pretend you're talking to a 3 year old

the stupid thing is mobius is my flatmate and when i asked him for help he says 'oh dude, just go to the dbb and find the link - it's simple'.

well, i've tried and have no idea wtf anyone is talking about.

i'm lost - completely and utterly

d3 is inches away from getting uninstalled, which i don't really want to do - but either i can play online or i free up a shed load of hardrive space

can anyone please help me

well, thanx for that

nice to see this is a community which cares for its namesake

at least i enjoyed what little time i did get playing d3, but there's no point keeping redundant software

and unless someone can help me, that's all d3 is

enjoy this forum and for those of you who do know how to access d3 online, i'm very jealous

Have some patience. This isn't particularly 'Cafe' material and will probably be moved to a more appropriate section of the board.

As for PXO being down, I wasn't aware of it. I'd seen bits and pieces here and there about it finally being gone but never really read any more about it being that I no longer play descent anymore.

There are alternatives though. Kali, Gamespy *bleh*, if you're not behind a router a direct IP connection (which if you are, it doesn't stop you from joining someone elses game who isn't) by simply finding people on some of the D3 IRC channels if there are any still. I'm sure most of the servers are still hosting games, but since PXO is down you can't see them. However that doesn't mean you can't still join them.

Don't worry, someone will come around and help you, just be patient. It is a virtue that does come in handy :P

here we go contact:

-----------------
what you need:

descent3 with 1.4 patch:
get the patch here:

http://www.planetdescent.com/site/files/d3/patches/

chat:
----------------
most descenters are now on irc, 2 channels/servers are established:

irc.gamesurge.net
#descent3, #descent3rookie

irc.shadowfire.org
#descent

if you dont have a irc-client or dont know how to set it up, go here:

http://www.descentchat.com/

only thing you need is a browser with java enabled.

some descenters are still on kali:

http://kali.net/

kali is us$20 for lifetime use, has a good chatinterface and great
gamebrowser.

gametracker:
---------------------
since pxo is down, most dedicated server have switched to direct
tcp/ip and report to gamspy, kali, cx-tracker etc.

best gametracker for d3 with the option to autojoin games via
batchfile:

http://d3.descent.cx/tracker.d3

another cool (and free) gametracker is kquery, just added d3-support a
few weeks ago:
http://kquery.com/

and last but not least, kali from above, shows most server and you can
join from within the kali gamebrowser.

hope that will help you out.

I really need to bug Thunderbird to upload my D3 starter FAQ to PD :P. It would be perfect for answering questions like this. Also, for future reference contact, just because no one has answered your post within three hours of its creation doesn't mean that no one will help you. Many posts require a few days for a response. Next time, try to be a little more patient. With the amount of nerds on this board, it's only a matter of time before one of them will see your post and help you out :).

And yes, you have our permission to beat up Mobius :P.

contact, most of the people that post here are in North America. At the time you posted, the majority of us were sound asleep in our beds so you can't expect an immediate reply that late at night.

That being said, you'll have better luck on kali. The trial version limits you to 15 minutes of use at a time (meaning you can use it for 15 minutes before you get disconnected). You are allowed to re-connect as many times as you like, but you're better off paying the $20 one time fee. (This may have changed since I've been registered since mid-1998.)

Now, off to the proper forum this thread goes.

MD, the 15-minute rule is no longer in effect. Jay Cotton changed the trial account to a one-time, 30-day trial run. If you want another trial after that, you'd have to use a different e-mail address. That being said, 30 days is plenty of time to decide whether or not Kali is worth the $20 lifetime fee.

P.S. I just made this exact post in the other Kali thread in here :P.

Did you try going to the top and selecting Get Servers->Descent 3?

If so, check out this forum:
