"Svchost Consumes a Lot of CPU Resources"

Does anyone know about this problem? I'm running Windows XP Home Edition (SP1), and what's described here is pretty much what I'm experiencing.

I tried doing what's said here, that is, installing a new RSA ACE/Agent, but I couldn't. Instead, I have to kill the instance of svchost.exe that causes the problem every time I boot the computer. And I have to do it before its too late.

Find the malicious program(a dependancy) that is using that specific instance of svchost

Process File: svchost or svchost.exe
Process Name: Microsoft Service Host Process

Description:
svchost.exe is a system process belonging to the Microsoft Windows Operating System which handles processes executed from DLLs. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated

Not to mention there is a virus that masquerades as "scvhost"...That one had me stumped for a few days on one of my office machines.

hehe

I kept looking at the instance of svchost.exe that was causing the problem. One of the services that this instance of svchost.exe was using is called SSDP Discovery Service. It enables discovery of Universal Plug and Play devices. So, I disabled it by using the Services snap-in in the Microsoft Management Console. LOL
