What are some of your favorite, lesser known music artists?

Hey everyone,

I just figured I would ask what some of your lesser-known music group are? IE: Stuff you would find in mp3.com

My favorites at the moment are:

Cosmicity- They are techno style music that reminds me a lot of New Order, Depeche Mode, Tears For Fears, or Erasure style techno but like a much more modern style with a lot faster pace. Very cool and original sounding music. Great for cruiseing around with your music turned up with the bass going.

Thousand Foot Krutch- They kind of resemble a cross between Linkin Park and Hoobastank. Very cool sound as well.

Sinnead O' Connor is also a pretty good artist. Check out the song: "It's All Good." Techno-ish stuff but slow and has an interesting sound as well.

Bitstream Dream- Good fast techno stuff. They did some stuff for NFS6 as I understand. Not too shabby.

Well, they're not THAT lesser known. Used to be a fair bit bigger in the day, and despite not having those "sales" that those fake-made-up-bands do, they have a large and loyal fanbase.

Yeah, I've had Lengsel's album since it came out...

Bathory is old school. AFAIK, "they" were one of the very first bands to have the black metal sound (first album in '84), and I think some credit "them" with starting death metal, as well (apparently the first album is more death metal, it is one that I do not have). I say "they" because Bathory is a 1-man band. Bathory became more Viking Metal around their fourth album (most, if not all, of his music created after Blood Fire Death also had clean vocals.) You have probably heard them in connection with Emperor because Emperor covered "A Find Day To Die" on "In The Nightside Eclipse" (also featured on "Scattered Ashes- Decade of Emperial Wrath"). Bathory's early music was mostly very evil, and eventually became more pagan/odin based. Initially, I was told to skip anything past his 6th album, however, I have found that his latest two albums are incredible (Nordland I and Nordland II - not counting the comp/best of that was released in between). I may also check out other albums after the 6th (actually, I was also told that the 6th wasn't worth picking up, but I have it and it's good). More or less, I recommend picking up Hammerheart, Nordland I and Nordland II, and Blood Fire Death for sure. If you like Blood Fire Death, you might want to venture into some of his earlier stuff (much of his newer stuff is clean vocals. BFD is when he started going into Viking metal). Anyhow, let me know how you like it when you get around to trying it out. Song recommendations:

Hammerheart: Valhalla, Shores In Flames
Nordland I: Nordland, Foreverdark Woods
Nordland II: Vinland
Twilight of the Gods: Twilight of the Gods (epic 30 minute, 3-part song).

I have to admit that I rarely listen to largely unknown music (unknown to people here maybe, but not unknown here where I am). So, unfortunately, I can't contribute.
