I didn't see myself added on the mainlist
If this happens, how can we get the money to you? I think I'm only able to do paypal since I'm in Costa Rica.
By the way I've linked this to the community forums of the flight sim I do most of my online gaming at, IL2 Sturmovik, in the hopes that some of the sidewinder lovers over there might sign up on this as well.

Nope. He's looking for a way to make his own PCB using the the current layout. I may still have the gerber files you sent me for checking on my comp at work, would that help ?

any estimate on when production will begin?
Posted: Sun Jul 15, 2007 6:35 pm
by KoolBear
Ok all, I'll massage this as details roll in. Production Start under 3 weeks, need to nail down shop preferences reel vs loose parts (different part numbers)and most importantly correct/regen the gerber files.
Once I have provided you with a schedule and pricing (within the next few days) I will then setup a paypal account and start accepting payments.
Grendel and I will finance the startup cost to get the the initial board order placed. During this process (approx 2 weeks) we shoiuld be able to collect funds to purchase all the components. Then another 2 weeks to wave solder the boards.
Grendel I have no idea about testing other than I could plug them up and verify they work on my machine.

Hi, I've scratch up a board following your schematic, but it doesn't work.
Your device is very great!
I've been trying to make a similar one for Force Feedback Proabout half a year before, but no progress.
This afternoon , I built one board by hand(I didn't finish a PCB), and I tried it-- but no response to the Windows(XP).
Even the sys gave no \"Found new hardware\" notice.
the system hardware management had no any updated information on the USB devices either.
the LED(connected to PD1), is always on(except a Blink on start/reset).
I read your firmware source code. I find it fistly run init_hw() function, and then the init the USB stack. So I assumed that the mcu didn't find my FFP. However, along with your bootloader readme file, It seems that when I plugged the device into the System, at least the system should have a response to the USB device. So I tried the bootloadHID.exe -r main.hex, it gave a \"cannot open the specified device\".
I don't know what's wrong with it. I test the voltage (with USB plug connected to the board), only about 4.0V, not normal 5.0V, I think someplace is wrong.
I used a NE556, I can't find a LM556 here, but I find the datasheet between them is the same. They min voltage is 4.5V, so I think something around Voltage is wrong.
I didn't go throught all the code of it, so i didn't well understand how the CODE runs.
Can you give me some more about the programming?
Why you use a 556 chip? is it following the US patent #5628686? to send a trigger signal?
If I want to make a similar device that support the Logitech Wingman series, must I used also a 556 chip to send a trigger signal?(of course, the connecting-wire is different).
Thank you!

Hey if at all possible I'd like to get one of these, I'd really like to be able to use my Sidewinder again.
You can email me at:
Kurgan62@gmail.comnospam
I'm not really concerned about cost, I'd just like to reserve 1.
BTW Grendel thnx for putting the work into reviving a great joystick

I don't know the current models, but the ones I have have a strange LED behaviour.
On Powerup, the LED is almost on (in fact it is blinking at a very high rate).
When plugging in the joystick the LED is off. On Stick movement the LED lights up.
Maybe one should have the LED signals more intuitive.
periodic blinking while searching for joystick,
LED full on when all handshakes complete (so fully operational),
switch off LED while data transmission time (so creating an blinking pattern correlated to stick movement).
LED full off when no power (obvious)
I think this would ease things a lot when trying to determine the status of the MCU.
(at least I have this problem)
2 more plz

Hi guys...Put me down for 2 more complete units. That would make a total of 4 all together. Hope it's not to late. Thank you Koolbear and Grendel for all your hard work on this project.

Munk wrote:I don't know the current models, but the ones I have have a strange LED behaviour.

A cycle is 4ms ON followed by 8ms OFF followed by trying to initialize the stick. If no stick is connected it's very visible since it's pretty bright. If a stick is connected when plugging it into the USB port this phase is over after about 500ms.
Munk wrote:When plugging in the joystick the LED is off. On Stick movement the LED lights up.
After the stick is initialized, the LED is turned ON after a good packet has been read from the joystick and turned OFF a short while after that. Now, reading the stick is triggered by the transmission of the last data packet via USB, ie. if the LED is permanently OFF there's no USB activity. This should not happen while operating the converter on a fully operational OS. The USB stack of the OS should poll the converter every 10ms, thus ligting up the LED at a 100Hz rate. The effect is that the LED is a lot darker then while "searching" for the stick. I think that's very desireable, you can still see if the converter is operating but you don't have an overly bright LED shining who knows where (in your face eg.
) There's no change in the LED pattern if you move the stick.

Hopefully not too late, but please put me down for a complete unit.
I may have gotten confused somewhere through the pages, but is there an option for the board and parts just not assembled? Or is it just fully assembled and/or just the PCB only? I personally have no issues with soldering up my own board, just waaaaay too lazy to source all the required parts myself.

Is their a cutoff on getting one of these adapters?
Like many others I own a sidewinder 3D pro and would like to be able to use it again. I've played Descent many times but a number of years ago I stopped playing games. Recently I came across Sinistar Unleashed for just a few dollars and wanted to try it on my laptop. Playing it from my laptop for a few days reminded me that I had a joystick. However, of course, I had usb ports now not game ports. If I'm able to obtain an adapter I could perhaps dig up my copy of Descent.
As avid fans all of you can appreciate that! So what's the status of the recent batch of adapters?

I used to lurk around here a lot, but managed to randomly stumble back onto here from Wikipedia searching for history on the 3DP.
If it's not too late, I'd like to reserve 2 preassembled units if possible. Would like to bring back my two 3DPs to life. Thanks in advance for all your work Grendel, KB and everyone else involved!
