...because they split in 1995 =)

I would recommend reading this article:

http://www.gamasutra.com/features/19991 ... ent_01.htm
Descent was developed by a small group of programmers and artists at Parallax Software in Champaign, Ill., headed by Mike Kulas and Matt Toschlog. After the successful completion of Descent, Toschlog moved to Ann Arbor, Mich., and established a second office for Parallax Software. He took three designers with him and hired two additional programmers. Both offices then began to work simultaneously on Descent II.
Wikipedia is always right, yeah? ;)

EDIT: and FYI, Matt Toschlog only took 2 guys with him... so even this article has some of the facts wrong. It was 3 total including Matt T.

EDIT #2: Oh, and do you have the box Freespace came in? I have mine.

p.s. All you have to do is read the Interplay SEC filings to see that they continued to refer to both Volition and Outrage as Parallax through the release of Descent 3 and Freespace II.

Yes, it was in a package released before the company split.

Err......all this does is state that they had two offices. Many companies have offices in more than one location. Since you somehow believe the company split(meaning became two separate companies not just two offices in different locations) in 1995, please provide a link or something that says it split into two different companies in 1995 as the many articles I have read make it clear that Parallax split into two different companies in 1997.

Also, try reading the rest of the section you quoted, I will begin right where you left off.
While Descent II was deemed a successful project, the process of trying to get teams located in two distant offices to work effectively together took a heavy toll on both teams. It was at that time that Matt and Mike decided that each office should work on separate titles and eventually become separate companies. Thus, Outrage Entertainment and Volition Inc. were born.
Read that a few times. Descent II was done before they decided to mkae Outrage and Volition. Instead of being one company with two offices in two different locations trying to work on the same games, they decided to become two different companies enventually(meaning some time after Descent II was done).

How can I \"trust\" someone who said that Parallax was split into two companies(Outrage and Volition) before Descent for MAC was released.

Yeah... I have the original Descent 1 CD for Mac somewhere and it has the Parallax logo on it. It also says Parallax in big letters when you start up the game for the Mac also.

The readme file on the Descent CD for the Mac say this at the top:
MacPlay presents:
Descent
By Parallax Software
The readme file on the Descent II CD for the Mac say this at the top:
MacPlay presents:
Descent II
By Parallax Software
So Parallax at least lasted until after Descent II for the Mac shipped.

well, since parallax completed D2 before the split, it's possible that a port was done by a few people after.

Even if there was a port of D2 to Solaris today, it would most likely carry the Parallax logo.

this topic died, decomposed, and then fossilized a long time ago.
