I think if I was in the woods and saw that thing lumbering through the brush towards me making that noise, I'd be a little more than freaked out. O.o

Pretty amazing robotics.

the noise can be fixed. I'm sure it's low on the priority list of the project. I mean really. an unmuffled 2 stoke engine? They just needed something quick and dirty to make it go.

That is the most amazing and disturbing thing I've ever seen!

Kinda reminds me of the ending in \"The Fly\".

Yes, it moves very natural, like living creature.

Really deranged ;)

And, sadly, it's poorly rendered. Perspective on the US flags is all wrong. (Actually, the lighting on the AT-ATs is a bit wrong too, but anyway.)

Actually the flag is correct, in the US military they only wear 1 flag, and “that” view is the “other side”.

On a uniform you will usually see 2 images of a flag…the view from the front, (worn on the left arm) and the view of the “same” flag from the other side (worn on the right arm)

Haha.

I wonder if technologies like this will be of any use sometime soon.

Hah! I don't care if it sounds like a whole army of those things, that's the coolest robot ever. I'm amazed it didn't fall down. I sure would have.

Funny, isn't it? Robots in sci-fi are supersentient, and we can barely get AI to handle things as well-constrained as chess. On the other hand, sci-fi robots regularly have problems with things like stairs . . .

And then there's this video from reality. Sweet.

DARPA for the win.

Coming soon to a battlefield near you: scary robot dogs with guns and unbelievable balance!

someone pushed it with their foot with what looked like all the effort he could muster, and it slipped on ice.. and both times it stayed upright!

it was so close to behaving like an actual animal I had to make sure it was a robot.

Awesome robot stability...

... but I'm with roid, the sound was just hilarious, especially the slo-mo section, where it went from \"EEEEEEEEEEEE\" to \"e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e\".

...you weren't correcting me. I didn't notice they were reversed, and don't mind that so much; regardless the perspective is still wrong.

Impressive but REALLY CREEPY! They really need to get a better power source though. That whine is nasty sounding. Maybe a small Wankel rotary engine like in the Mazda Rx sports car. It would just hummmm then.

The same is true for any human soldier (or mexican :x ), but they are harder to fix or replace and far more expensive on average.

take a close look at the painted section it jumps over.
it's been digitally added into the video afterwards. The thing probably just jumped, and then they added in that painted section to show how far it jumped. It kinda implies it has targeted jumping, but i doubt that's the case - they just added in the target afterwards to show the distance it jumped after the fact.

It does act a lot like a skittish horse though hey.

it's primarily being designed as an artificial pack-mule, it's just ment to carry stuff for the soldier. so it's "support", probabaly not ment to get into firefights
