I first read this as a rumor on mektek.net. I hope it's good.

(PLEASE don't post the link to Living Legends, I already knew about it like a million times!)

I'd love to see a new Mech game, epically with today's graphics. Hopefully the \"giant-robot\" craze will pan out and let the franchise revive.

Huh. Back to fourth succession war eh? It does look quite pretty, all things considered, although there isn't that much more there as far as gameplay goes than its predecessors.

We've been long overdue for a mech game, especially for this generation of PC tech.

But WOW, that trailer is awesome!

Oh yea, Living Legends Living Legends Living Ledges.

I will have to upgrade to play this but sadly that won't happen for years. Unless I win some money.

Dang!! Nice!! I wonder if they are going to come out with this thing on the Xbox. If not, I'll have to check out the pc requirements. I wouldn't mind have an elaborate controller setup for this one. not to mention multiple monitor support.

Would LOVE to have back my fully customizable Daishi. Set that bad boy as a long range missile boat for team support with long range non laser weapons for low heat consumption. Ohh!! Good times!!!

Well... It's not gonna take place during and/or after the Clan Invasion, sooo... no Dire Wolves (or Daishi to the Inner Sphere) or any Clan 'mechs.

Mad Cat MK Mark II outfitted with Gauss, and Clan LRM20' would be fun too.

Not that I played the game a lot hehe

from everything that I've read, that was NOT in game, but a trailer made to demonstrate what they want in the game. They have some great ideas. It should be a lot of fun. Oh, Coop was mentioned too. They are thinking of 4 person coop (only because a LAnce consists of 4 people), but they are open to change in that area.

Even if this is NOT in game footage, I'm sure with technology that brings games like Crysis that this game will KICK MAJOR ASS!!!

Now, to win some money so I can upgrade my PC. I'm still running a P4 3ghz with HT. :( Can barely play anything new now.

It's pretty easily recognisable as UE3 (which I'm not sure is entirely a good thing, but hey, it still looks nice so I'll take it). While it's unlikely to be actual gameplay, it probably was rendered on the fly. Or it might have been pre-rendered, who knows... but the game should be able to achieve pretty comparable graphics.

I just read up on MekTek and they are in Saint John, New Brunswick. I'll be near there at the end of the month. I should see if I can get a tour of their place. :D

hehe, I wasn't complaining or crying fowl. Although I can see where it looks that way. I just wanted to make it clear. I have no doubt that that kind of fidelity in game is no matter to attain these days. I'm pretty sure the Crytek engines (3 is on the way soon) can do that without breaking a sweat.

I'm stoked. also VERY looking forward to the MW:LL mod. Apparently there is some debate as to whether it will continue or not.... I don't see why they would stop now when the New game by Piranha is still a couple years out. (I don't think I saw an actually time line or date in the interview).

Technically, Catalyst Game Labs LEGALLY brought the "unseens" back (the images) in June 24th, 2009. And you forgot the others from Crusher Joe (e.g. the Locust) and Dougram (e.g. the Shadowhawk and Battlemaster)
here's the article of the return of the unseens:

Well folks, as Vam posted a couple days ago, we are effecting some major upgrades to our servers and there may be server shenanigans periodically over the next few days. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause, but keep in mind, when the servers are down for upgrades, that means were gearing up for the Mercs release. Jehosephat and the rest of the crew are working their tails off preparing for the release, a little more patience and you will reap the rewards.

Unfortunitely there are some issues with the new MW game
IGN wrote:September 3, 2009 - Earlier today, IGN and its parent company were issued a cease and desist order from Harmony Gold, the co-copyright owner of the television series Robotech. The letter claims that the use of certain trademarked figures from the Robotech/Macross universe, of which MechWarrior 5 is a part of, is prohibited as a result of a prior settlement that dates back to 1996. Apparently, some of those trademarked figures appear in the trailer used by Pirahna Games in its announcement of the MechWarrior reboot earlier this year, and a request has been made for that trailer to be pulled from IGN.

This development puts the future of MechWarrior in jeopardy. A trademark dispute could derail the game's development. On the flip side, it could also simply result in specific characters, logos, or other trademarked material from being included in the final product.

IGN has contacted Piranha Games and Harmony Gold for further clarification.
I guess they (Piranha Games) forgot to read the article on Catalyst Game Labs' Battletech site regarding about the Macross Robotech based unseens and replace the Warhammer with something else like...The Hammerhands (suppose to be the precursor to the Warhammer).

Draw them a little different, then send a letter back saying \"good luck\". Copyright only covers exact replicas, not similar designs; you need to file for industrial design rights to do that, and I doubt anyone involved tried to do so (if they're even allowed to for purely fictional works of art in the first place).

Looks good, I saw the trailer on YouTube.

Actually, now that I re-read that, it's a trademark issue which is a little more defensible than mere copyright (in fact, under US law, it appears a 3D reproduction of a 2D image wouldn't even be subject - although it would in the UK); but nonetheless as long as it's distinguishable from the original trademark...

Posted: Thu Sep 03, 2009 9:48 pm
by Duper
I don't see why that would derail the entire project. Modify what you want in it to placate the copyright.
