Catholic Bishops Support Socialist Healthcare

Post by thwart »

Has anyone seen this

Can you believe this nonsense? Why does it seem that the Catholic Church (which I belong to by the way) is turning more socialist by the day? I noticed a few years ago that the prayers were including nonsense like \"government will fairly distribute natural resources\" and now this.

Socialism is based entirely of theft. If they cannot force people to pay for it, it stops. I guess the Catholic Church forgot about this commandment:

Thou shalt not steal.

AARP as well.

The fact is all of us on this BB have lived in a socialist/capitalist hybrid our entire lives. Social security, welfare.

As a society we set a standard of living. We recognize that the elderly whom have spent their entire lives working, should not have to spend their last days grinding out the last bit of \"work\" they have in them.

The criticism against socialized health care is a fair one. I don't want to have to pay for someone who drinks to much or doesn't take care of them selves and ends up in the hospital. I don't want to have to pay for people who abuse the system, or are just flat out irresponsible.

Yet at the same time, I don't think insurance companies should make near the profits that they do. It's ok to trying and rip someone off when they want to purchase a nice TV. It's ok to try and squeeze them for every last cent. I have no problem with that aspect of capitalism.

But the same does not hold for a life saving operation. The difference is one of choice: if the TV sales man is trying to scam me, I can live without his product. This is quite literally not true in the other scenario.

Flat out socialized health care is wrong (and its not what we are getting), but reform is necessary. And the republicans didn't do ***** for several years, so yes I am hoping health care gets passed -- most likely in a version i do not support, so that it can then be tweaked and changed to something more reasonable when the Republicans take office, and then the Dems again, etc.
