well.. it's not really a review, because a review consists of playing the game.

but I couldn't. so I wrote up my initial impressions of it here.

It's like that because apparently nobody uses wheels. Duh.

yeah, it's as if wheels are an alien invention or something.

EA is afraid of lawsuits if NFS players start to drive in RL.

GASP!
You've solved it! That's how men invented the wheel!
(And the Loch Ness Monster exists! And it's actually a cyborg! And it's controlled by aliens! And this is a blatant Dr Who reference!)

Plenty of better (imo, I never really liked NFS) racing games out there for me to even bother with EA's crap.
I noticed how the vast majority of posts in that thread were complaining about something... there was almost no-one saying "this game is good!"

Well sure, aren't most posts on the interwebs complaints? :)

The last NFS I really liked was Porsche Unleashed.

PU was the best they had. Everything after was crap. I've even tried the lasp Hot Pursuit one and it's not that fun. I just want to race and not have to worry about not scracthing my car.

When it's a really good game I tend to see more compliments in "response threads".

Maybe it's just the communities I'm in.

I liked hot pursuit - have it, and it's the only NFS game that I have.

I never got *that* good at it - I think I only beat the campaign on difficult once, and it was by the skin of my teeth. Backwards/Mirror/Night always tanked my times, and I'd end up just hoping that I wouldn't end up with one of those until I'd secured myself in the standings. I think I found that the class C cars were actually the easiest to consistently win races with - they were more forgiving of small driving mistakes.

Racing games can be hard like Descent is to most but if you stil to it, have a good controller (stick or joypad don't cut it) you can get a lot better. You just need to stick to it and learn the cars and tracks you race.

I've had a passion for racing since my first PC in 1994 and been doing it on a regular basis since about 1999. I just recently got Dirt 3 and F1 2011 and found out that GTR 3 is due out next year. I splurged a few years ago and bought Logitech's G25 racing wheel and never regretted it. Having a wheel for racing is the best thing ever. It makes driving so more realistic and fun.

Dirt 2 is probably the most fun racing game I've played - haven't tried Dirt 3. I liked Forza III, but only played for a half hour.

DIrt 3 AND F1 2011 came in a bundle for 33$ so I bought it. Dirt 3 is a lot of fun.

My favorite NFS game was also PU/P2000. Hands down.
I "enjoyed" the later titles, the ones with tuning and customization and all of that but not nearly as much and not in the same was as I enjoyed:

NFS PU
NFS HP
NFS HP2

I'd say my favorite out of the ones post-HP2 would have to be Most Wanted simply because customization took a back seat to gameplay and fun.

Of course, I play other racing games, too. I'd say my favorites are the old Extreme-G games and WipEout games. I also play quite a bit of Trackmania Forever now and then...

And sometimes..

Ballistics.

Too bad I hit too many things in the last one :)

Trackmania is fun, I used to be ranked 99 in the world :)
