Anyone know where I can download the original set of music for all 3 versions of Descent?

Thanks!

Well what soundcard did you play D1 and D2 with first?
Pumo's uploaded all the OPL3 soundtracks to Planetdescent:
http://www.planetdescent.net/index.php? ... 01%20Music
http://www.planetdescent.net/index.php? ... dl=d2Music

And the D2 Redbook soundtrack is on the second link too.
If you want to find something that played on a different soundcard, take a look at the addon soundtracks for Rebirth. You might find what you're looking for. (I recommend Foobar for converting all the ogg files in the addon zip to mp3).

You can find D3's soundtrack along with Mercenary's here:
http://www.planetdescent.net/index.php? ... d;dl=cat30

And last but not least, the entire D1 Playstation soundtrack is here:
http://www.planetdescent.net/index.php? ... lbum;in=63

If you get all of these you'll only be missing the short versions of the D2 Redbook tracks (which you probably have on the cd :P) and the one song that was on the D1 MAC CD but not the Playstation.

Maybe I strongly differ from all the others, but I never liked original soundtracks Descent (except for some tracks in Descent 3).

Here it is possible to download soundtracks to Descent (on a player to press the right button of a mouse and to choose "To keep as...") http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/d

And for me forever the best soundtracks for Descent there were DJ Deep and Disco Nevada megamixes. When that under this music I the first time passed missions Descent) http://discomixes.ru/djs/dj-deep.htm

Thank you for the Descent Music Links.

I have always enjoyed the "Descent" mood music for each level from Descent 1 demo through Descent 3.

I'll download these fine music files soon.

Just picked up a New HP PC for Home (Windows 8 64-bit) and having to migrate everything important from my other PC's Hard Drive which was using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

Windows 8 just doesn't cut it for me yet... sadly as a Software Developer I have to support it even though it breaks many things that have worked for years in Windows XP and Windows 7.

Look up Classic Shell, it'll make Windows 8 look and feel mostly identical to Windows 7 (but you can still do all the Windows 8 stuff optionally). Makes Windows 8 practical as a proper work environment, while still preserving the option to check and make sure something works in its "tablet" mode.

Why Kali? Rebirth is easy to set up for multiplayer and so is D2X-XL if you're not on my home network :P.

er... do I realllly need to explain this?

ugh, ok.. here goes.

All you youngins sitdown, shut up and listen real good.

Back 15 some years ago (close to 18 now) when games were only P2P, you needed programs like Kali and Kahn ... and one other. There were many later on.. to fake the game out into "thinking" it was on a LAN on not the internet.

I hit Kali about the time D2 came on the scene when 200+ users were on every single night. ROOK and I and a few others here all met there and spent WAY too much time finding the best way to "force the other to respawn". It's our old stomping ground, in short. That And I still have my serial numbers. I even have the sheet of paper that I first printed them out on, on a dot matrix printer.

That's why. :|

I still don't get why you need it now. Does the gameplay on Kali feel different or something? Does it change the actual game in any qualifiable way? (Like, lower pings or something?)

There may be a new official Descent soundtrack for people to collect in the next couple of years... with both covers of the old tracks (including ones that weren't remixed on D1 PSX) and original songs...

I can't say any more. I shouldn't have said this.

...great times & with a great bunch of ppl :)

on topic...
i was thinking of releasing 4 new SBLive! rendered MIDI soundtrack AddOns for D1&2.

...and expect a minor D1X-R Hi-Res AddOn update sometime soon 8)

Generally, no - it's a different way of doing the same thing. It still uses the original peer/peer architecture of Descent, versus Rebirth's centralized model, which is probably the main difference with more than 2 players - peers have a shorter link to each other (and so better effective latency) at the cost of Kali being a complete pig to get working with a lot of routers.

Probably no advantage at all over XL though, I think that's still peer/peer.

The other thing Kali has going for it is an integrated chat, so if you have Kali, might as well meet up there even if you aren't going to use the built in p2p connectivity.

Is Kali even actively sold or updated anymore, or is it basically just hanging out on its own?

It's active and it's being sold, but it's no longer being updated. It can't really as most newer games require a Publisher's logon to play. EA=Origin, Steam, UBiSoft, Activision=Battlenet, etc.

No, Krom summed up very nicely what I was TRYING to say.

Kali was the playground and full of shenanigans... Except for a few that were wound too tight and romancing the bottle instead of grabbing up spew in full blown anarchy!! But then again ... After enough harassment drunken FFA's were fun too...

I have 2 serials on Kali to play with

NAT is easy with KALI

I seem to have a better workout dodging your stupidity than attempting to grasp the weight of your intelligence.

Wheeeeeee!

Lots of fun in this thread for sure.

One KALI member that I am aware of talks for hours on end with nobody chatting... Seems that he enjoys watching his own comments then rebutting his own comments with new ones.

I miss good old Capture the Flag and the occasional Entropy Games in Descent 3.

I do that sometimes on empty servers in Trackmania.
