i could post a screener from every 4 hours a day. You would see that nothing is back to normal. Sorry, but I disagree. The first idea i had when i saw your post was: "Photoshop?, Gimp?". I think you was just lucky with that screener - sorry.

im with checkor. nothing back to normal. i'm sure some people are giddy with glee that pxo may never come back. recruiting new players to the game is a futile pipe-dream. it is a totally separate issue from supporting the extant community. I think its a terrible blow that we've lost PXO. I feel like the lamb has just opened the seventh seal.

I still fail to see how anyone could be so negative about these results.

Negative! Suncho those numbers are not "back to normal". You've made it quite clear that you think PXO is a great barrier to attracting new players but lets face it when PXO is up there are a lot more than the 19 or 20 players you have a screenshot of. I for one can't wait for PXO to come back up (if it actually comes back at all) I'm quite tired of trying to get into a game through the cx tracker only to find 10 or twelve players in two levels that I really don't care for.

19 players at 2:30pm EDT is pretty darn good.

Umm... It's funny to hear you saying that because I heard people making similar complaints BEFORE PXO died. Some people I know quit playing the game specifically because of this problem.

Since when have there been more than 3 or 4 games going on PXO at once... if we're lucky?

from coolchris pxo-stats site he was working on before pxo was going down you could see, the last three month before pxo was down, we had an average of 26 players playing at the same time, at a max of 66 players in the mines at the same time. average sever number was 54 if i recall right, between 35 and ~80.

I don't think anyones bashing on Suncho. He's obviously a die-hard Descent fan. I like that. I just disagree with the numbers he is using. When PXO is up I've seen as many as 25-35 players in 6 or 7 active games. To me that breaks down as 2 or 3 levels I don't care for with the possibility of 2 or 3 levels I like and would join. I too btw am a die-hard Descent fan who just likes to play.

Right now there are 25 players in 6 active games out of 42 total games.

The Internet is not supposed to be your babysitter. You shouldn't be letting kids on the Internet who are too young to handle that kind of stuff if you don't want them to see it. That being said, PXO isn't even that bad comparingly. Ever been to Battle.net or chatrooms for just about any other game that has a large community? They're just as bad, if not worse.

We're not responsible for your kids. We're not supposed to be. That's what being a parent is about.

The Rookie area was usually pretty decent w/ language issues. Same on gamesurge (#Descent3Rookie) -- havn't seen acting up in there yet (might be 'cause I could do something about it tho ;))

Gamers have to expect foul language and disrespectful behavior because the majority of online gamers are stupid immature kids, and like I said D3 is no worse than any other game. People who "dropped Descent" simply because of the behavior of people in chat probably don't play online games very often, because if they did they'd be used to that sort of thing.

Has anyone ever noticed that there were players that went right to the game . . . . they were never seen in chat. Has anyone ever really given a thought to what was frequently discussed in chat? The rotten language, frequent referral to personal body parts and the skill in using them, remarks that were said frequently that would NEVER be said directly in person to the individual they were directed to. Conversations involving the use of drugs were common.

This game has WORLD WIDE EXPOSURE. It should have many people waiting in line to play. Every game on every server should be full.

Had I young children playing Descent and found them taking part in chat under the situations listed above . . . . They would play single player at home.

No steps were taken to clean chat up. What a fundamental rupture of common respect for others.

How many people were offended so often by this, even the first time, that they simply dropped Descent and went away. From time to time players got cursed while playing the game.

There are those who wonder why one of the finest games that ever was has died away . . . . before this comment is chopped up and spit out . . . . . Think on it a little.
welcome to the internet.

Nfltr8r,

your theory is that Descent doesn't have enough players because chat is too foul.

However, according to that theory, Starcraft shouldn't have very many players, because starcraft chat is pretty much filled with "free porn" links.

Clearly, your theory is flawed -- the foulness of chat does not directly relate to the number of players who play the game. Maybe cleaning up chat might make a few more people comfortable with the game, but it's not going to make it as popular as Starcraft (which has a much fouler chat.)

I have a better theory:

Descent doesn't have enough players because the latest game is 5 years old and still only at the 1.4 patch, its distributor (Interplay) is practically bankrupt and never put any effort into advertizing, and it's simply a hard game to get good at (the learning curve is very steep.)

i was allways wondering what makes people using foul language like the usual talk in chat. its probably cause they know they can hide in the anonymity of the net and like to do things they are not allowed to do in real life.
Nfltr8tr is right in some points, a lil bit more selfdisciplin and polite talk wouldnt hurt.

but that wont happen until we get that what i hate most cause its against the right for free speech: moderated channels with kick-fests and bans.

so we are stuck to selfcontrol, and obviously not many people know what that is or know how to do that.

Nfltr8tr, I agree that it's unfortunate that people talk about certain things and certain people in certain ways, but I, in know way, am compelled to think that this is the reason we don't as many players in Descent 3.

You can put tape at the top of your monitor so that you can't read what people are saying. I know some people do that.

I simply hang out with NuBs all the time. They don't cuss a lot, and they make great company. That is why, no matter how good I may get at this game, I'm going to remain a NuB.

But, they won't tolerate for one second any cussing  That's where they pull the plug. I know, because my Dad monitors me all the time. Lately, though, he's been trusting me a lot.

So, if you want more players, keep it clean for the new people.

And Suncho.....I was talking about audio taunts. Those are the ones I like the most. Wabbit for example has kool ones. I like him a lot.

I don't mind the fword in text, because it doesn't end up on my machine as a file. When someone audio cusses me, I have to delete it.

I luv you GOOD guys a lot and want to keep playing with you.

bettina, if you get D3 Alias, you can set it to delete all the audio taunts on your computer (except for the ones you tell it not to) every time you start up the game.
