Speeding is beyond stupid...

Post by Nightshade »

And you can see from this graphic- what can happen to a speeder or his potential victims...

Image

He was ejected and thrown 20ft up into the air where he impaled himself on an overhead highway sign.

http://www.onenewspage.us/video/2015103 ... -Fatal.htm

Image

He doesn't appear to have looked like the sharpest tool in the shed either.

My brother and I witnessed a similar scene when we were children riding to school one day. We were driven past an accident where firemen were trying to cover up the corpse of a motorcyclist that impaled himself a few feet up onto the climbing spikes of a telephone pole by the freeway. It looked like something out of Vlad the impaler's reign.

That's a pretty gruesome way to go. The car must have been rolling pretty fast to throw him up that high. He obviously wasn't smart enough to wear a seat belt either. :o

Right now, more people die in car accidents than by firearms. But what's scary is that gun deaths are rising and vehicle deaths are falling. It won't be long before the 2 statistics swap places. In some states, firearm deaths already outpace vehicle deaths.

Since you don't seem to understand tongue in cheek when the word "gun" is used, does this make your statement better?:
Louis Perez, 65, suffered severe head trauma and died at the scene, police said. His 10-year-old granddaughter and 24-year-old Kristian Leka, were taken to a hospital where they later died.

Or:
STILLWATER, Okla. — Authorities on Sunday named three adults who were killed when a woman police say was driving while intoxicated plowed her sedan into a crowd attending the Oklahoma State University's Sea of Orange homecoming parade the previous day.

A 2-year-old child was also killed and 47 people were wounded in the crash.

Please, since it's the body counts that only seem to matter to you, do not ever again try to make out deranged shooters are any different from deranged drivers

and what is the real difference between the two situations? One is very strictly regulated, with common sense safety rules.

Yup, guns are more regulated than cars are.

Yup, guns are more regulated than cars are.
really? Have to be licensed to operate in every state? Nope. Have to be insured for damages? Nope. Have to be registered, and re-registered at regular intervals with the safety of the item in question inspected? Nope. Are the guns subject to federal safety standards? Nope. I could go on......

Insanity.

You need certain hours of training before you can even get a driving license, which is under constant threat of being taken away for the slightest misstep. Not comparable to firearms.

Slightest misstep? LOL

I'm not so sure about that. Too many people that speed, tailgate and run red lights are still on the road from what I have seen and experienced. An IQ test should be passed before people can get a driver's license- and it should at least be 110. "Normal" IQ of 100 is too low. :P

If that were true, we wouldn't have drivers' licenses, insurance, registration, road tolls, the DMV or even DOT.

Oky Doky...To have a conceal carry license you have to take classes and be certified by a NRA instructor. You then have to be finger printed and a background check done. The carry firearm has to be registered through a local police station. To hunt a person must have a hunter safety class if born after a certain date. If not a carry gun and you want to transport your firearm you must have it locked in the trunk of your car. If you want to buy a fully auto machine gun, you need to get a class c license from the federal government. As far as I know you can buy the most powerful car made and not have to get a special license for it.
Your items of road tolls, the DMV or the DOT have nothing to do with controlling how you use your vehicle. If you wanted to use a car to commit mayhem, you could bypass all your items listed and use it for mass murder...just like with a firearm.

So yes there are more laws involving firearms than cars.

no there are not, woody, and moreover, the comparison in terms of sheer numbers isn't even close.

To have a drivers license, you have to take a test at the DMV for your learners', and then take a more advanced test at the DMV for your drivers. Down the road, you have to be re-tested to keep your license every five years, and when you become elderly, every year.

One point refuted, let's continue.
You then have to be finger printed and a background check done.
Photographed for your drivers. Two for two. Next.
The carry firearm has to be registered through a local police station.
Your car has to be registered at the dmv and insured through either government or private brokers. Next.
To hunt a person must have a hunter safety class if born after a certain date.
To drive anything other than a family car, such as a motorcycle, single or two-axle truck, bus, limousine or even an ambulance, you need an additional license and competence tests for each one. Do you need different licenses for a pistol, shotgun, or rifle? noooope. Next.
If not a carry gun and you want to transport your firearm you must have it locked in the trunk of your car.
restrictions on your drivers license apply if you're under age of majority, or need corrective lenses. Again, more regulations. Next!
If you want to buy a fully auto machine gun, you need to get a class c license from the federal government. As far as I know you can buy the most powerful car made and not have to get a special license for it.
Add air on top of your truck license and that's another registration and competence test.
Your items of road tolls, the DMV or the DOT have nothing to do with controlling how you use your vehicle.
Yes they do. DOT regulates a car even before you buy it, and DMV regulates your car when you have it. Tolls regulate where you can drive your car. Either pay the toll or you don't drive on that road.
If you wanted to use a car to commit mayhem, you could bypass all your items listed and use it for mass murder...just like with a firearm.
Nope. The DOT gets you there too. Even before you get into the car.
So yes there are more laws involving firearms than cars.
Nope. Nope nope nope. Every one of your points didn't come close to out-numbering the amount of rules, regulations and licenses for vehicles.

moreover, Woody tries to make the analogy with a carry permit, far more difficult than merely owning and operating a gun. That would be ok if he wished to compare it to the regs to be, say, an ambulance driver, hazardous waste driver, or some other speciality motor vehicle operator. As noted, he can't come close even comparing his version of gun reality to a simple car driving example, let alone the example I cited.

exactly. And we haven't even touched on the construction regulations, the paint regulations, material regulations, collision repair regulations, transportation regulations, fuel regulations, sale/transfer regulations and even the disposal regulations.

So even with the existing gun laws, it's as close to 'here you go, have fun with your gun' as it gets without it actually occurring.

but then again, the same individual keeps suggesting that the US is threatened with the real possibility of adopting Sharia law, so no shock.

of course....and, in a nation that fiercely holds to a majority position separating church and state, even for Christians, despite the fact that 60 percent of the population is Christian.

I wonder how the United States will be solved the problem of compatibility policy of tolerance to LGBT and Sharia laws.
