So, I noticed that the DMDB website is completely down (it just shows a blank page). :(
Does somebody here knows anything about this, is Jourdan still around?

Some people have been trying to get in contact with him for a couple weeks now, but no luck so far.

Stupid question: What's the dmdb? Because the dr. demento music database is still up and running. I checked after reading your comment.

edit:

Did you guys see that the descentbb.com is down? lmao, good riddance.

Yup
Never was interested in going there... this community seems like it had a penchant for schisms. Gotta choose your company with some care. :)

DMDB is/was/hopefully will be again the Descent Mission Database. Not the best-organized site in the world but it was nice to have it all in one place.

I feel like that would be a fun website to build. If they don't come back, I could host that content on my site.

I think Parabolicus and Hunter are already working on making a replacement.

Well, if you want one that's made competently, I'm sure they're good enough. But if you want a badly made one with features nobody asked for, I'm more than qualified. 8)

Ok, if at any case it's needed I have many of the missions that were hosted on the DMDB on my hard drive, including the most known and some rare ones as well (i.e. the latest versions of Sapphire Wolf's missions, etc).
Although most of my collection is Single-Player, I have very few Multiplayer levels on it.

Your computer is basically a life boat for data.

I've written an application that will hopefully be used for the DMDB replacement, and it's open-source: https://github.com/ziplantil/DescentMissionArchive. It's very much based on the look and feel of DMDB, but with extre features (such as a more versatile search functionality and hopefully better security). The project is now, to my knowledge, stuck in branding problems (code and hosting are both worked out) - seems when the question of coming up with a proper name (and possibly a logo) came up, everyone kind of lost interest. The code seems to work, although it is yet to be subjected to any kind of extensive large-scale testing.

Well, I don't see an issue with the simple and straightforward name it already has, but at any case perhaps it could be named something like PTMC Archives or PTMC Vault (just throwing vague ideas here). :P
I think the main problem would be the hosting, as it wouldn't be a small site at all.

At some point before OverloadMaps existed, I was considering attempting a DMDB-style site for Overload called JOA Registry. Maybe PTMC Registry could work?

I've put online a version of new site by Parabolicus with the DMDB content I've recovered at https://2ar.nl/dxma/

As far as I know the plan is to add a few more features and then host it at sectorgame.com

I've also put online an archive with all DMDB files at https://2ar.nl/dl/dmdb-files.zip (1.1GB)

The new version is now up at https://sectorgame.com/dxma/. It's still being worked on, but should be mostly functional.

EDIT: Please contact me via PM if you want the missions you have added to be moved under your account. Currently most of the missions are under the DMDB placeholder account.

Or is Update Date the same?

"Update date" is the date/time when the mission has been last updated. Each mission also has a release date (when the mission was first released) and a posting date (when the mission was first uploaded). The mission table only shows the update date, but the other two can be seen by opening the mission page.

The missions imported from DMDB have a single date for all of them, which I think comes from the file date (but I'm not totally sure). If we ever get access to the missing DMDB data (including the proper timestamps and the mission descriptions), we'll probably import those into DXMA as well.

Great work! Huge relief you managed to recover everything and I like the new layout. Glad I found the thread explaining what was going on, I was worried haha. Lots of maps I hadn't played yet. The new search features are extremely useful too. Thanks! :D
