PXO Server

Post by Inquisitor »

As part of the FS2 SCP, I managed to get a release of the PXO game and stats trackers.

I need someone who feels good about MFC, the guy I had working on it had issues come up and can't work on it anymore.

Can you read and write MFC code? Have you always wanted to convert something from MFC to a nice cross platform package?

Would you like the ability to have PXO back? And can you devote some time to rescuing an aging server platform for a couple of VERY cool Interplay games?

If any of this is indeed interesting, email me at edgardner@maxgaming.net

Wow!

Makes me wish I'd spent a little more time in C++, and a little less in web design. What's the project time-span?

I hope you don't mind that I took the liberty of getting this in the news. :P Getting PXO back would be a huge accomplishment, both for us and for the FreeSpace community. Best of luck to whoever takes it on. :)

I know MFC (use them myself), but I am not going to convert this stuff into cross platform code, I'm afraid ...

So what about the old argument that the PXO environment is too secluded?

I believe that this conversion would include removing the login requirements for PXO, meaning that people could still use whatever server browser they wanted to join games.

Suncho was evangelizing that. I dont know if it was all that wide spread.

Actually I don't care. It's nice to have it back for the FS people. For D3, having a out-of-the-box tracker makes it a bit easier for newbs to get started but it really doesn't matter -- Vortex or mIRC/Kquery gets you all you need plus some. I never used in-game chat since it's a crappy interface and the in-game tracker was a pain in the arse because of its bug infestion. Remember the good old times ? Tracker fell down and nothing worked anymore. I'm surly not going back.

Nobody's asking you to ;)

I just wanted to know if anyone wanted to help, and some folks have volunteered.

Thanks!
