Monitors

Post by Cyclone »

I have been thinking on getting a new monitor the past few months but i'm not sure what to get. I want at least a 20inch monitor. I'm using a dell trinitron 19inch crt tight now.
Any ideas?

Remember that from a viewable area standpoint, a 19" LCD will be approximately like a 20-21" CRT. :)

I'm just running a 17" Mitsu flat CRT at home, so no real help here.

19" Viewsonic 912b here, it's a beauty, but pricey..mine was $500 a few months ago. Samsung's are also very nice, and are slightly less in price. I had the choice of a Samsung 19" 8ms or a Viewsonic 19" 12ms. I had them side by side with the same game, same machine, and I took the Viewsonic.

Dell's LCD's are actually good, 'cause I think Sony makes them.

Look for a Samsung as their monitors are very nicely built and of high quality.

If anyone knows of a better monitor let me know. Money isn't really an issue for me, I would rather have something better.

One last question. Does anyone know of any in-depth reviews on these monitors? I'm not sure which one to get and I can't seem to find any reviews.

Thanks.

Oh...those are both CRT's..

Go with Samsung, then.

[quote]RESOLUTION
Maximum 2048x1536 / 75 Hz
Recommended 1280x1024 / 85 Hz

I think you want to look for the one that has a recommended of 1280x1024/100hz.

I'd say go LCD, if money is not an issue. CRT's are just..blah anymore.

CRT is still superior to LCD in speed, but I have to agree, LCD is the way to go.

thanks.

hmmm crts are blah? Well I find lcds to look grainy. The pixels are big and with a max resolution of 1280x1024, thats not very high. Not to mention lcds usually have a lot of blurring/ghosting. My dad's laptop has an awesome lcd. The max resolution is higher then 1600x1200 but it looks more grainy then a crt and it blurs when there is scrolling text.

Please correct me if i'm wrong. Cuzz I love the color on lcd monitors compared with crts :)

I have a 19" Viewsonic LCD here at home. Yes as far as gaming goes, CRT is better because they produce no ghosting. But, the ghosting on mine is hardly noticeable and really does not affect my gameplay. LCD has the clearest view, so if you can find one cheap, I say go for it.
