We are looking for a poll of the generals on controllers. We have it on our site and the information is actually for another company who is seeking to create the perfect Descent / Core Decision controller.

Hope they have seen the movie Firefox and don't put a swear filter in...

I can just see it now "I thought turn left you stupid arse controller!!" followed by a nice zap to my grape.

A controller for Descent? They had better engineer a wonder of versatility, comfort, and durability, or it'll be a joke.

I look forward to seeing it.

If they make it perfect you should only need one. That darn hat switch is always busting on my controller. It lasts about 2 or 3 months then it's in the trash. I would like to be able to separate the left hand controls from the stick so I could mount them to my gaming chair on each side.

Impossible for so many reasons I don't know where to start :) Strongest point is probably that everyone has his/her own idea of a perfect 6DOF controller. Right after that would be a commercial aspect, a 'perfect controller' would not break in the warranty period (up to 1 year). This would make no sense since it would make the controller hillariously expensive as well as saturating a very small market very quickly.

Logitech tried a 6DOF controller, the CyberMan II -- even it's probably the perfect (affordable !) 6DOF controller there is, guess what happened ? :P The technology survived in the SpaceBall 5000, a 6DOF controller for the pro CAD/CAM segment. Too bad it's not an HID joystick..

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a 6DOF controller that won't break and that I could use. But I seriousely doubt that it'll happen.

I use a stick with my right hand, and the keyboard with my left.
